Boots red with blood, it’s just another day in Palestine

Another week of shame for Israel, as Israeli tanks kill 18 Palestinians, some of them women and children, some as young as four years old.
Read the harrowing and poignant account of a BBC journalist in Beit Hanoun, a town in the Gaza strip, who came home from his reporting to discover his boots drenched in blood.
Perhaps, the president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is right? Why should the Palestinians have to suffer because of what the Jewish people have suffered?

Western Cape inventor creates the one second “Pronto” condom

Fast condoms on sale in South Africa
A Western Cape inventor, Willem van Rensburg, has created a condom that can literally be put on in one second flat.
Van Rensburg identified that the greatest obstacle to using a condom is the length of time it takes to get one on, which tends to be a passion killer.
The Pronto condom has a unique patented applicator built right into the wrapper. One cracks open the foil pouch and then slide the condom directly onto the penis.
Pronto condoms are a unique South African invention and are currently only available in South Africa. You can purchase them at any Pick ‘n Pay or Checkers supermarket (in the Western Cape) or at Dis-Chem and other major pharmacies countrywide (excluding Clicks pharmacies) or online via the Pronto Condoms web site.
They cost about R7 each, which is roughly US$1.

Koeberg Unit Two down – AGAIN!

Eskom investigates Koeberg reactor shutdown
The Mail and Guardian article (linked above) contains a factual error. Koeberg’s two nuclear reactors each produce 900MW (Megawatts) of power for a total of 1800MW, not 900MW as stated in the M&G article. I know this from the background research I did earlier this year for the article I wrote at that time regarding Koeberg’s problems.
Koeberg Unit Two shut itself down automatically yesterday (Sunday Nov 5 2006). It is now operating at only 6% capacity, while they struggle to get it back up again and investigate what caused the shut down.
This is the ongoing saga of electricity supply problems in the Western Cape. In August this year, Eskom said that it was not negligent in respect of the power outages the Western Cape experienced earlier this year.
Eskom is the company responsible for supplying ALL of South Africa’s electricity needs. Yet another South African monopoly. Cities are, however, allowed to operate their own local power stations.
However South Africa’s electricity regulator did find them to be negligent and guilty of not living up to their licensing agreement.
Then there are a lot of meelie mouthed words by the head of Eskom, Mr. Thulani Gcabashe, but the bottom line is that Eskom did not have its shit together then, and perhaps not even now, because Koeberg has suddenly become unreliable after all these years of giving reliable service. The problem is that basic maintenance procedures are not being followed.
Gcabashe is a bullshitter.

Lioness in zoo kills man who invoked God
A man in Kiev, which is the capital of the Ukraine (a former province of the USSR), made a meal out of himself this past Sunday when he decided to conduct a personal test for the existence of God.
He climbed into the lions’ enclosure at the Kiev zoo, whilst saying loudly that God would protect him IF He exists.
He was promptly set upon and killed by a lioness.
Obviously, the lioness hadn’t got the memo.
Of course, purists would be inclined to point out that he made a rather critical error (not in climbing into the enclosure in the first place, mind you) when he proclaimed his lack of faith in God when he used the word “if”.
Nothing is surer to turn God off helping you if you doubt He can.
The next person to try this experiment should bear this in mind. Leave off the “if”. It is crucial that you “psyche” God out and at least pretend that you believe in Him with all your heart.
Oh, and do carry a handgun (as a backup), should God prove elusive on the occasion.
