No evidence against Juan Duval Uys aka “suspected sex blogger”

So after everyone has thoroughly enjoyed themselves defaming Juan Duval Uys up and down the South African Blogosphere and in media publications, it turns out that the state has NO EVIDENCE against him.
This does not come as a surprise to me at all.
On July 23 2007, Carol Amos of eBlockWatch contacted me via email asking me if I had any "evidence" against Juan Duval Uys.
I gave her the following reply via email:
Juan Uys is gonna walk.
If all they have as evidence of fraud is "receiving donations from the public", it will be thrown out.
Arresting him for alleged fraud of R250 is ridiculous. R250? Are you kidding?
That’s the only charge I’ve seen reported. If he has been harrassing [Andre] Snyman [also of eBlockWatch], I haven’t seen him charged with that (yet).
I think he could sue the police for arresting him, and the media for linking him to the blog, without any evidence.
I’m amazed at the media printing this slander about him without any firm basis.
If someone asks for donations on their web site, it’s only fraud if it is represented that the donations are for a specific purpose (other than keeping the site going) and then they are not used for that purpose. I don’t know what his web site said to elicit donations (if it did indeed do that).
It seems likely to me that the person made the R250 donation specifically so that they could then lay a charge. In that case, they knew beforehand (or at least strongly suspected) that they were giving a donation to a person for them to dispose of as they wished. And that is not fraud. Fraud involves deception.
I think this is a very weak case so far. Let’s see if they have anything of substance to bring. Otherwise he has a case for false arrest.
My message to all the bloggers out there who jumped on the bandwagon and vilified Juan Uys without having any evidence or proof for their allegations is this:
YOU are the kinds of bloggers who ought to be shut down. You are exactly the problem. As much as SA male prostitute was criticised for publishing information whose truth was in doubt, so did YOU.
Andre Snyman of eBlockWatch claimed that Uys had been harassing him telephonically since December 2006. No evidence. Sorry, Snyman, but I just don’t believe you. I suspect you made it all up to get your name in print and to focus a little bit of attention on eBlockWatch which seems to be an organisation of dubious worth. I say that because your actions seem to be nothing more than misguided vigilantism. You have shown no restraint in blackening a man’s name without any good reason to do so. You ought to deliver a public apology to Juan Duval Uys.
All of you who have vilified Uys owe him a public apology.

August 21st, 2007 at 11:12Thank you for posting this on your blog. I do not support this character Uys nor his actions, but I am sad to and frustrated with this whole case. I have posted this message at another blog about Information on Uys:
Everybody and the media has gone beserk and overboard about this Uys character.
Before I burst a vein in my head out of sheer frustration with this entire case let me vent my opinions here:
NO judge or court on this planet will find a person or parties guilty or responsible for slander or crimen injura for something published on the internet. The internet is unique in the sense that it is a PUBLIC medium, and not like traditional paid-for media. It is almost as if the parties involved in this case has never surfed the internet before! Have they never seen the crap out there?
The law explicitly excludes this medium from these legal structures. The only exception is child pornography. We may all hold an opinion about the infamous sex blog or southafricaexposed blog – but Uys has full right to publish on a blog WHATEVER he wishes to! That is the point of especially blogs.
The real ‘guilty’ parties here are:
The sensationalist media who gave this blog perceived credibility in the first place. Without them, this would’ve been just another crazy satire blog out there.Another party is “AIN” who everybody confuses with National Intelligence. It turns out AIN is nothing but a private investigation firm, run by ex-cops, oblivious to any legal knowledge or the rights of privacy of individuals. They happily take money from private clients to embark on massive cloak-and-dagger operations for a case they should know cannot be prosecuted.
Indeed – “a storm in a teacup”. There is a bigger issue involved here – I do not support this individual or his actions, but instead of Uys looking like a villian, to me, the only thing that this whole debacle has exposed is the sheer ignorance and stupidity of all parties involved.

August 21st, 2007 at 13:27Simon Grindrod blew a lot of hot air in Uys’ direction. Well the affidavit that Grindrod made did not even name Uys.
Grindrod can now give us a full explanation of his actions OR he can shut up and retire permanently from his political career.
Personally, I am not interested in such a man holding any political office in South Africa. I want people of integrity, who show restraint and understand how to conduct themselves appropriately in any given situation. Getting all worked up over some junk on the Internet and deciding to publicly pin the blame for that on some person without a shred of evidence whatsoever, is any politician’s ticket to obscurity.
Goodbye Simon Grindrod. It wasn’t a pleasure.

October 11th, 2007 at 09:24Juan Uys brought the suspicion on himself.
This character has such a shady background and the finger was pointed at him because of this. He was the warped mind behind Crimexposouthafrica.org, a website that was hellbent on spreading disinformation on South Africa and its people. Uys had several different identities on this website making it as if this site was run by numerous concerned citizens about the crime situation. Instead, the site became a outlet for every racist out there who jumped at the chance to vent their views.
Simon Grindrod took the initiative and laid charges with the police for amongst others, fraud. Uys was taking money from the public under false pretenses. The hosting company eventually pulled the plug on his site citing racism and hatespeech promotion as the reason.
Furthermore, Uys ran a gay brothel in Pretoria. He was arrested there for drug possesion and prostitution and was hounded out of this city only to make his way to Cape Town and cause havoc there.
This sex blogger names Simon Grindrod and a Pretoria pastor as his “clients”. Isn’t odd that Uys was involved with these people before, and taking Uys’s background in causing havoc on the internet, the suspicion fell on him. There is no doubt in my mind that Uys is the sex blogger. Maybe not enough evidence was found to make a case but it is him alright.
Uys is a crackpot who thrives on being in the media. I mean, in Cape Town, after the Sizzler gay massage parlour murders in 2003 where 8 people were murdered, he comes out and blurts that the murderers first came looking for him at his flat down the road. Every dirtbag, scumbag and drug dealer in Cape Town was running for cover and denying involvement and here comes along Uys talking as if they were gunning for him. He was interviewed by the cops and was found to be lying through his teeth. He even made it on Etv news (no great achievement as Etv will broadcast anything).
If you want to see the extent of his run ins with the law and media, Google his name. He has a very impressive Google presence, so to say.
I doubt we have ever heard the last of Uys. He will surface somewhere causing havoc through the net under a fictitious name. This guy should be locked up in a mental home!

October 11th, 2007 at 09:37Well before you do any locking up of Uys, please first find evidence that proves your allegations.
All the charges against Uys were withdrawn for lack of evidence. He shouldn’t have been arrested in the first place. The police had absolutely no case against him.
None of what you have said here is news. It’s all spurious allegations. Until you can prove your theories, they remain slander.
