Want to know why YOU are being inconvenienced by power cuts?
Posted on December 11th, 2007 by Richard Catto 2,240 views
I’ll tell you why – rich whiteys who don’t give a fuck!
While driving through rich whitey neighbourhoods in Cape Town, I’ve seen the new imported American trend of decorating your entire house with fairy lights for Christmas has taken over. Whole streets are now competing with each other to see how fast they can drain the national power grid of all available power.
None of these rich white arseholes give a fuck that South Africa is struggling to provide power to meet all our needs. As long as their house is ablaze in a shower of colour, the rest of the country can just go fuck itself.
Why is it that so many white arseholes in South Africa struggle to come to grips with the idea that we are a Third World country and that they should act accordingly and try to conserve as much energy as possible?
Live down, whitey. Don’t live it up.

Huh? Huh? HUHUHUHUHUHUHUH?!

December 11th, 2007 at 12:53Richard, while I completely agree with you that people should stop to waste electricity, I am sure you must know this is not the true reason for all this power cuts. The reasons is called PLANNING, MAINTENANCE and MANAGEMENT. In 1999 a retrenched white Eskom worker told me “you should go and buy yourself a generator, I know what is going on in Eskom”. I thought, what a pessimist, what a load of bullshit. Well, he was right.

December 11th, 2007 at 14:36When the new government took over at Eskom they were warned that unless they immediately start upgrading the lines etc that there would come a electricity disaster. They did not listen and spend all the money on allowances. The ceo of Eskom makes more than R10 000 000 a year. Now all of a sudden they seem to have a problem. They should of listened.

December 11th, 2007 at 14:49Yeah, I agree. First we started this trick or treating nonsense a few years ago, now some of us have an urge to festoon our abodes with cheap twinkly chinese crapola come Christmas. However, I will say that I saw a tavern in Soweto last night that was lit up like Baghdad during a coalition bombing run.
To add another take on the issue, Pieter Dirk Uys (Tannie Evita) said yesterday that (s)he is sick and tired of “White Noise” i.e. whiteys who sit on their collective asses and just complain about the situation. (s)he said they must bugger of to Oz, that way the IQ of both countries increases.

December 11th, 2007 at 23:09Alright people – being Spencer, Sheena and young Richard – i read that! Funny, very very funny…. you’re lucky i like you guys and also that i’m blessed with both a fabulous sense of humour and great intelligence otherwise i might have to throw a tantrum over that crack at Australia.
Surely you meant to say New Zealand ?

December 12th, 2007 at 03:30Never read such uninformed / unintelligent (albeit entertaining) crap as the blogs here.
Ever done the math ??
The electricity consumed by the all cheap twinkly chinese crapola on a street [of say 100 houses] uses LESS electricity than a geyser does in 15 minutes of heating.Richard did you have a hot (or even warm) shower last night?? (or even in the last week ??)
If the answer is Yes then youre a hypocritical f wit.Come on why should people have to compromise their lives by conserving a service they PAY FOR ???
-
Richard Catto Says:
December 12th, 2007 at 03:39Because, Fred, they don’t own the service.
Your attitude is so typical of capitalist rich environmentally unfriendly pigs.
Your idea of commerce is if you can afford it or make a buck out of it, you’ll buy it, sell it, use it, and to HELL with the consequences for anyone else.
It’s time to make an example of selfish people and slam them in jail and seize all their assets.
Capitalists are evil. They’re also stupid.
Having a shower and having hot water is necessary. Except possibly if you’re Guy McLaren, then it’s an optional extra.
Lighting up your whole house while South Africa groans under the strain of demand exceeding the ability of Eskom to supply power is just the same as an ugly old man walking into your bathroom while you’re soaking in the tub and pissing in your bath.

Rich Whitey Says:
December 12th, 2007 at 06:57I unfortunately have to disagree with you. The main reason for our current electricity situation is twofold: Eskom is run by people without proper education and it is in fact BLACK people who steal electricity in the townships. Remember that when you steal electricity, you steal money from Eskom and that makes it harder for them to up their output.
Ohn and I bet you have just as many twinkly lights in your own home. Stop blaming the people who actually contribute to the economy, rather blame those that take away from it.

Rich Whitey Says:
December 12th, 2007 at 07:01I also further suggest that, if this is the case, we stop driving cars, stop talking on cellphones, stop eating meat and grains, stop mass-production of EVERYTHING and we all give what we have worked hard for over the years to our gardeners.

Richard Catto Says:
December 12th, 2007 at 07:21Rich whitey, you are dumb and racist.
When it comes to saving electricity, I burn the bare minimum of lights.
I believe I already addressed the issue of using power for necessary things versus using power for frivolous purposes. It seems you are incapable of intelligent thought.
Get a brain!

You do realise that your “blog” is hosted on a computer that online (and thus “wasting” electricity) 24 hours a day 7 days a week ??? Shouldn’t the server be turned off along with your outside lights ??
What would you want us to do – turn off everything and return to the dark ages just because some-one forgot to plan for our situation 10 years ago?
Nice analogy of the old man and the bath

[don't think i'll ever get the image that invokes out of my mind]
but will remember to lock the door next time i go for a soak though.“Capitalists are evil. Theyre also stupid.” – but they also are responsible for (and fund) the infrastructure for the medium that you’re using to promote your ideas. Just a thought …

Fred Says:
December 12th, 2007 at 10:16Oh and BTW: i DON’T have christmas lights outside my house, my geyser IS on a power conserving timer circuit (together with a supplementary [& frikking expensive] solar heating sub-system) and i bitch at the family for leaving lights / aircons etc. on when no-one is in the room…
but does my minor effort help ??? [almost] definitely not – we still had a power cut yesterday due to “shortage”
so excuse me for being a touch cynical
-
Richard Catto Says:
December 12th, 2007 at 10:26Fred, you’re coming across like a real plaasjappie because servers HAVE to be online all the time, unlight fairy lights which NEVER have to be on. Also my server is in the United States, so I’m not draining South Africa’s electricity of even one watt.
I expect South Africans to find creative ways to use as little electricity as possible right now, out of pure patriotism and loving concern for their fellow man. And not being an arsehole and using up gratitious amounts of power because they’re a rich arseholes.
Capitalists are not responsible for WordPress, Fred. Open source software designers are. They create this all for FREE – total NON-capitalists!
Fred, I think you need to go and speak to all your neighbours and ask them to conserve electricity. I’ve decided that I’m going to put a note in the letterbox of houses I see burning house lights.
What I’d really like to do, though, is put on some jackboots, sledgehammer their doors in at 4AM in the morning and drag them out into their front gardens for a pile of whoop-ass.

Marko Says:
December 14th, 2007 at 01:58Hey Richard
I do agree that the stupid lights are annoying and probably irresponsible while we are having an electricity crisis.
That is however not why we are experiencing power cuts. The powers that be in government and Eskom have mismanaged one of our most important resources and now we must all suffer, including those that steal the electricity, our other African customers (eg. Zim) and even local paying customers. You say we’re living in a third world country and we must accept that. Bullshit.
If that were true then how can we possibly be hosting a soccer world cup?As far as our economy goes, in case you didn’t notice even state owned companies like Eskom are capitalists. They need to make profit. Do you think Eskom directors earn modest (ie. non capitalist pig) salaries?
As far as open source software goes, the people that make it are not non-capitalists. It’s just a different model. They just sell their skills and time instead of their products. Open source based companies are definitely *not* non-profit companies. Just ask Google
Oh and hey Richard it’s summer now, you can turn your geyser off and have a cool shower instead of a hot one. Drink less coffee too

January 19th, 2008 at 06:43Richard, you need to be a little more objective here; you allow UmWTF’s racist comment (No 5 – one white man one bullet) to go unchecked yet you hammer anyone who voices an opinion that criticises black management skills.
Perhaps you just do it to be provocative?

Firstly you are a racist pig.
Secondly if you think people finding “creative ways to use as little electricity as possible” is going to help now you’re as stupid as you sound… it’s a little toooooooooo late to start saving. White people (consumers who pay for what they use, even if they do so excessively) aren’t responsible for this mess the government is (and they look pretty black too me, but that’s not the issue). Someone fucked up big time and now we need to fix-up. As for your last comment on this being for amusement, you honestly expect people to belive that shit… it’s understandable that you’re angry… you’re confused (clearly). You started this with one intention, to pass the buck to the white man.
So next time you can’t offer anything constructive, just shut the fuck up and stand at the back of the crowd, with the rest of the idiots, scratching your head.
-
Richard Catto Says:
January 21st, 2008 at 15:31DeJevu, firstly you are a doos.
Secondly if you think using more electricity than is absolutely essential is OKAY, then you are stupid.
I’m sorry that you failed to discern the humour in my post. Clearly this blog is not for you.
Kindly fuck off, Sir.
