@Marko: Perhaps I’ve just been lucky but both times I managed to meet up with fairly decent company.

Not everyone in custody is a murderer and / or a rapist. There’s a lot more people in for minor stuff like DUI, drug possession, drug dealing, theft, malicious damage to property etc.

I never felt threatened and I easily became on friendly terms with some of the guys there. My kind of scum, I guess.

Actual jail, of course, is different.

Um, yes I have had the ‘pleasure’ some years ago and I’d hardly liken it to summer camp.
There are plenty of cases of people being raped, assaulted and murdered in police cells. I have friends who have been badly beaten while in custody (by cops and fellow inmates).
Would you really feel a sense of camaraderie with a bunch of murderers and rapists Richard? Please…

I’ve had that pleasure twice and come out unscathed.

It’s not as bad as some people imagine.

I’ve read media reports of a man being killed in a holding cell and also of an hysterical middle aged woman who couldn’t deal with incarceration.

It’s not pleasant, but it’s not the end of the world. It’s a bit like being on summer camp – you build up a camaraderie with your fellow accused, and in the end everyone is advising others what will happen (in court) and what you should say.

Yep, except that the powers that be make it extremely difficult here for a law abiding citizen to protect oneself. Killing an attacker in self defence will result in immediate arrest and a murder charge. I won’t even go into what happens to people in our police cells.

It is now quite difficult to legally own a firearm in SA while the murdering bastard criminals can purchase an AK-47 assault rifle with ammunition on the black market for a few USD.

Why am I not reading that all the Mothers have banded together to protect their children !!!

What kind of spineless justic system does SA have??? I was thinking of moving there to work for Eskom but perhaps I should stay in the States.
Maybe I should become a handgun and ammo supplier to all the Mothers – bet that would subdue your rape issues.
Sounds as though extreme measures are necessary to correct the mindset of the males in SA.

That’s just an isolated hooligan incident. So the pommy cops are soft, big deal. At least people there don’t have to worry about being killed for their cellphone or car. I also don’t see the British hooligans running around necklacing ‘foreigners’.

There no point in trying to downplay the unusually high rate of violent crime in SA, Europe’s rates pale in comparison.

@Dre: Thanks for your support. I think what is becoming obvious is that the Limeys have become a nation of whiners and cowards, preferring to run from problems instead of staying to fight.

And that is why the United States is a better country than Britain, because Americans are strongly patriotic which is something I admire greatly about them.

Most of the scum bags running from this country are Limeys. Fortunately for me, I am a Scot, so the less English, the better!
