Koeberg Unit Two shut down
Posted on July 23rd, 2008 by Richard Catto 3,168 views
Koeberg Unit Two experienced a problem with its cooling system on Sunday, according to a report carried by Engineering News.
Engineers on site recommended that the unit be shut down for repairs now rather than risk it failing at a later stage. A controlled shut down was initiated on Monday and was completed by 14h00 Tuesday, July 22 2008.
Engineers must now wait for Unit Two to cool down before it can be thoroughly cleaned and repaired. Total down time is estimated at three weeks.
In the interim, Eskom has appealed to the South African public to be conservative with their use of electricity during this vulnerable time. To make up the 900MW shortfall that Unit Two produces, increased use of two Open Cycle Gas Turbines in the Cape might occur.
The above graphic is included for humorous effect and is not part of this story. This message was included to cater for those brain dead readers who arrive on my blog and then choose to magnificently boast of their rank stupidity by posting comments that prove that they “just don’t fucking get it and will never fucking get it”.

July 23rd, 2008 at 07:07It does appear as if it is time for us to get those generators serviced and ready again.
If I look at the pictures on the TV this morning about the general strike in Gauteng it looks as if the biggest problem faced by businesses will soon not be the power supply. I suppose it is just a matter of time before this strike spreads country wide.

I remember back in 2005 when I first saw the Homer Simpson Eskom card thing. I laughed then. -

I didn’t create that graphic either.
