@Steve Hayes: It's a way to get your blog more well known around the EntreCard community. It can increase your readership base quite dramatically over time.

I've occasionally seen these "Entrecards" on blogs, and all they seem to say is "Get one". I was never sure what they were, or what they were for, and saw no reason why I shoudl want to "get one".

As for spending the time it would take to "drop" 300 of them, the mind boggles!

@nhuong: I've suggested a bunch of improvements to Graham Langdon of EntreCard and he was receptive to them.

My suggestions were about how to improve the way advertising works - better feedback, ability to choose which day of the week to advertise on and separate pricing for each day of the week so that the more popular days are more expensive.

I don't think that card dropping is old. If I could, I would drop on up to 1000 a day, but not always as much as that obviously. Personally, I feel that if I get over 300 drops on me then EntreCard should allow me to drop back on the same amount the next day.

What people fail to realise is that EntreCard is a huge success. There is no other blog promotion service that consistently yields good results for bloggers. If you put in the effort, you do get a guaranteed result.

@ lydi: Stumbleupon has bad bounce rate too sometimes. As bad as EC.

@ richard

these are list, but i feel that EC is going downhill. No new innovation. The card dropping is getting old, many of my fellow bloggers are tired of dropping 300/day. I visit a few blog a day and if they have the widget I drop on them. that's it.

I basically use EC to network w/ other bloggers. It's a wonderful place to network.

@Lyndi: Google does not penalise you if bad sites link to you. They only penalise you if you link to bad sites. So, yeah, be careful who you link to.

StumbleUpon does not work that well for me. It used to, but now even when people do stumble me, I might get 1000 hits off it if I'm lucky.

EntreCard traffic seems to be cumulative. The longer you drop with an intelligent evolving strategy, the better the results are. You also need to advertise on the EC network to get the full benefit.

And despite what some think, many EC members do become regular readers who comment on your blog.

Slightly off-topic but I thought I would throw a spanner in the works. I have been following a lot of debates about EC recently but it seems to me that everyone seems to be forgetting one other thing. There are other ways to gain traffic and many of these ways involve a lot less work e.g. StumbleUpon.

My actual question is, does all the work it takes to fully utilize EC really pay off? Is one not just going to end up with a few hundred daily hits without comments? Is the bounce rate not going to climb without really showing any benefit to the relevant site? What about those monthly back links from the sites you have been a top-dropper on, some of these sites are not always sites you would want back links from?

I am not knocking EC. Currently I make use of them but I find myself questioning the whole matter.

My own method is to find a blog with an Entrecard widget at the top of the page and book mark that blog. I now use Chrome for card dropping as it makes the drops very quickly. A few of these blogs I read and leave comments on, I have found a few blogs worth reading with Entrecard.

While the return card is important, it is not the most important part for me. I seldom look at my in box and if I do make the occasion run through those cards I only bookmark and add to my drop list the ones with widgets at the top of their blog.

We all have different ways of using Entrecard, and I am not sure that any of them really bring in that much quality traffic. Readers, commenters, and subscribers don't seem to use Entrecard as much as other bloggers looking for a quick EC.
