GEARING UP FOR THE BIG BLUE

Kleinmond, a fast growing rural town in the Western Cape, plays host to the annual Big Blue Festival where people can play and compete on the beautiful beach next to the Kleinmond Lagoon.

Festivities kick off on Thursday 8 January 2009 with The Big Blue Festival and on Saturday 10 January 2009 the Totalsports Challenge promises excitement and entertainment for both the participants and their supporters.

From small beginnings to great expectations to The Big Blue: Hangklip-Kleinmond Tourism Bureau’s Blue Big Festival, originally conceived to support the Totalsports Challenge has become an entity in its own right and reason to celebrate as never before. Thanks to generous support, sponsorship and a deeply committed team, The Big Blue is now a major event and embraces the Hangklip-Kleinmond, the people, the way of life and a jolly time.

The 2009 Totalsports Challenge offers excellent spectator value. This major sporting team event made the Overstrand its home and put Hangklip-Kleinmond on the international sporting calendar.

TotalSports Challenge Programme:

8 January 2009 – event registration at the Lord Charles Hotel from 16h00 to 19h00. The Race briefing is from 19h00 to 20h00 with the Lord Charles Pasta Party starting at 20h00 until 21h30.

The Big Blue festival incorporates the Hangklip Athletics Club Summer Series, offering 10km runs, night marathons, beach runs & 5km fun runs.

The Adrenaline & Outdoor Expo will feature exhibitors, including sports equipment, outdoor activities as well as local adventure operators.

The Entertainment programme will be jam-packed featuring traditional, local, and national singers, dancers and performers on the entertainment stage. The entertainment tent will feature comfortable shaded seating and a bar area.  Foodies can indulge in the Food Carnival and enjoy their meal whilst being entertained.

Various Sporting Competitions feature on the Big Blue Calendar, including Touch Rugby; Netball; Jukskei; Bowls; Boulé; Golf Chip and Putt to name but a few…

The Big Blue Kids’ Club will be offering a jumping castle; mini Olympics; stiltwalker; puppet shows; face painting and workshops; kite competitions; magicians and balloon modelers. A special kiddies area will make our little festival fans feel welcome, while older children can also participate in the special paddling race & mini adventure races being organised on the lagoon.

We will end the festival with a gospel song & praise event on Sunday for all to enjoy.
