IOL: Rape group accepts money from sex offender

This is how nations collapse, when we allow rich criminals to atone for their crimes by buying their way out of jail.

A wealthy Cape Town businessman, Jan Rabe, 42, has been allowed to accept a plea bargain in which he makes donations of R30 000 to Rape Crisis and Cape Mental Health each.

Rabe is the worst kind of sexual offender possible. He was found guilty of producing and being in possession of over 861 images of children engaged in sexual activities.

For this he received only a 5 year sentence, suspended for a mere 5 years if he makes the payments amounting to R60 000, enters a rehab program and does some community service.

This is a complete mockery of our criminal justice system. They are a joke. A disgusting prank at the public’s expense.

This is how nations crumble into dust.

   Shocking: badly indicative of a morally corrupt society, isn’t it?
   Makes me think of another injustice which occured in the last few weeks; and forgive me for posting this link, but it does indirectly tie in with the current atmosphere of crime and corruption and people being fed up of it:

   @Sybergypsy: the cops are bloody useless! I got hit from behind in Green Point a few years back by some damn Nigerian asshole. This happened right in front of metro police, and they told me they hadn’t seen anything. Then they let the Nigerian go and tested me for alcohol – which was negative because I hadn’t been drinking.

   The SA cops are the most useless agency in the world. They are stupid beyond description. I would get rid of the lot of them and appoint ordinary civilians, with brains to arrest all the obvious idiots in SA.

   It doesn’t take a lot of intelligence to arrest criminals, but our police can’t spot a real criminal even if you show them slides.

   I think perhaps the best way would be to get as many people to rally behind a petition or a type of peaceful demonstration, to keep chipping away at the issue(s) until notice is taken and action is forced. That’s why that facebook group (above) is such a good one: almost 50 000 outraged South Africans already…

   Bloody pig thugs the lot of them, esp. the metro cops. This has got to be the only country where two police agencies can engage in open warfare with live ammunition over some salary dispute, endangering the lives of the very tax-paying, law-abiding citizens they are supposed to be protecting.

   People are seemingly quick to judge someone when they have been labeled a ‘sex offender’ by society, but do they ever really take a moment to consider that the guilty party is often the coward who never owns up to his sick addiction, but who would rather see an innocent man, earning a honest living go down for his actions. What ever happened to being accountable for your own actions?
