If you’re not yet aware of this, there is a Global Food Crisis which is currently mainly afflicting developing nations. Over the past three years, the cost of basic foods such as maize, rice and wheat have risen by up to 180%. [1]
Four factors have been identified as the causes of Global Food Inflation: [2]
- Increased cost of fuels (increased costs of manufacture)
- Bad weather in food producing companies (decreased food supply)
- Increased crops allocated to producing bio-fuels (decreased food supply)
- A surge in the demand for food, much of it from China and India (increased food demand)
These four factors place upward pressure on the cost of food, which is expected to last for the next 10 years. [3]
Even if you can easily afford to gorge yourselves on the fat of the land, now is the time to show some social responsibility by cutting back on your personal consumption of food. Eat less, live longer, feel better about yourself.
And help a poor homeless person, you rich fat whitey.
